The above lyric from Matt Redman’s worship song “Never once” is a perfect compliment to my testimony. When Jesus calls me Home and I go the way of all the Earth, it is one of the songs which I want at my funeral.
I’m a sinner. I used to be short tempered and impatient. I used to be proud, selfish and conceited. I’ve been violent, I’ve told lies, I’ve dishonoured my mother and Father, I’ve watched porn and I’ve done and said things to deliberately hurt other people. I didn’t have true peace and joy and I wasn’t satisfied with life. And due to all my sins I was on my way to Hell.
Thankfully during my teenage years Jesus revealed himself to me. He put a desire in my heart to seek Him and I began to read about Him in the Bible, watch Christian programmes and I began to pray. Slowly I began to know about the things of God more and more and one night I had a powerful and impactful dream. I was all alone on top of a high building. I felt alone and scared. Then all of a sudden I felt God’s presence full of love and compassion and He said “I will never leave you , nor forsake you.”
And He never has. My life has had many ups and downs. I’ve had trials and struggles and also good times. I’ve had times when I’ve been close to God and times when I’ve turned away. But through it all He has never turned away from me. He’s always been there for me and has never stopped loving me. Looking back at my life at this point I can honestly say He’s always been guiding my steps and Has used everything for my good. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28”
I said before I’m a sinner. Believe me that is still true. I still do slip up and do bad things. But God is working inside of me through his Holy Spirit and is changing me to be more like Him. I’m nowhere near as bad as I used to be and over time I’m getting better and better and one day I’ll be completely free of sin. I’m a work in progress. “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Phillipans 1.6”
Through his death on the Cross, Jesus paid for my sins so I’m not going to Hell no more. I’m going to Heaven and I can honestly not wait to see Jesus face to face and thank Him for all He’s done. I have so much love, peace and joy now and I’m given daily grace to help me overcome whatever challenges I face that day.
God is faithful. His love is unfailing. Just as he promised me if you give your life to Him, He will never leave you nor forsake you. He will never leave you on your own.
